The Budapest Bossanova Quartet is an authentic Hungarian representative of Brazilian music. The bossa novas and sambas in their repertoire are performed in their original style, in Portuguese. However, through the ensemble’s instrumentation and improvised instrumental solos, their style is also closely tied to the performance style established in North American jazz. Building on all these traditions, their performance nevertheless centers on the fact that this music is fundamentally a collection of songs; thus, the instrumental and occasional vocal solos are also stylized in the “bossa nova” manner.
