Kálmán Oláh Jr., a Junior Prima Award-winning jazz saxophonist, and his quintet invite the audience to the premiere of their new album, “King’s Gambit”. The artist showed a keen interest in classical and jazz music from an early age and completed his musical studies at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest, where he earned a degree in jazz saxophone performance. In recognition of his outstanding achievements, he received the National Higher Education Scholarship from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 2021, and his exceptional talent and dedication were further honored with the Junior Prima Award that same year. King’s Gambit’s program is one of the most noteworthy works in contemporary Hungarian jazz, featuring Kálmán Oláh Jr.’s own compositions and unique arrangements. The pieces performed at the concert blend the energetic drive of modern jazz with a thought-provoking musical approach interwoven with classical elements—all written by the musician specifically for his own ensemble. The band’s goal is to showcase their artistic and compositional work in prestigious venues both in Hungary and abroad, thereby positioning the new generation of Hungarian jazz on the international music scene. A special highlight of the evening will be the appearance of Kálmán Oláh, a jazz pianist and recipient of the Liszt and Erkel Awards, as a guest of the band, further enhancing the prestige and uniqueness of the album release concert.
