Debrecen City Wine Award 2025

In order to develop and support high-quality Hungarian wine culture, the City of Debrecen is
setting an exemplary standard through its numerous initiatives. Hungarian wine and wine culture
are no strangers to Debrecen, as the city still considers the Érmellék region to be its traditional wine-growing area—a region that has been closely connected to Debrecen for centuries. Among other efforts, the city has organized joint wine and gastronomic events with Bihardiószeg and supported young winemakers with thousands of Bakator grapevine cuttings, thereby helping them remain and thrive locally.

Since 2015, the City of Debrecen and Debreceni Borozó, a wine and gastronomy magazine, have
annually selected wines worthy of receiving the prestigious title of “Wine of the City of Debrecen” in
seven categories. These award-winning wines are granted the honor for one year and proudly
represent the wine culture of the Carpathian Basin. This year, experts selected the winners from
more than 450 wines submitted by 120 wineries across 17 wine regions. The evaluation and ranking
were carried out according to the international 100-point scoring system by a panel of professional
and public judges.

The award-winning wines of the “Wine of the City of Debrecen” selection, coordinated by the
professional team of Főnix Event Organizing Nonprofit Ltd. and Debreceni Borozó, can be
encountered at the city’s official events and gastronomic-cultural programs. They are also available
for direct purchase at the Tourinform Office located at 20 Piac Street.
