The Lajos-Király Manufaktúra in Verpelét is a unique gem, as it has built its reputation not on classic grape wines, but on beverages and fruit wines made from currants. Located at the foot of the Mátra Mountains, they work with black, white, and red currants; all their beverages are made from 100 percent Hungarian fruit, using environmentally friendly methods. According to the estate’s own definition, this is both a legacy and a consciously chosen specialization; in addition to wines, they also produce syrups, pálinkas, and other currant-based products. The strength of this artisanal operation lies precisely in the fact that, with artisanal authenticity and youthful energy, it offers an exciting alternative to conventional wine-making conventions. The bottle label was designed by Géza Ipacs, one of Hungary’s most renowned advertising experts; the “RBZL” abbreviation was also his idea.
