Tornai Pincészet

Balaton Wine Region - Somló

The Tornai Pincészet is one of the flagship wineries of the Somló wine region, Hungary’s smallest wine region by area. At the western foot of the Bakony Mountains, on three volcanic hills (Somló, Kissomlyó, and Ság-hegy), local farmers have been making wine for centuries. Endre Tornai, the founder, began growing grapes and making wine in 1946 on a vineyard of barely two hold. Today, the estate spans 70 hectares, and the third generation is already involved in the business. The Tornai Pincészet’s vineyards stretch from the southeastern side (on the outskirts of the villages of Doba and Borszörcsök) to the western side (up to the administrative boundaries of Somlószőlős and Somlójenő). Innovation has been a constant feature of their more than 75-year history. Their wines are served at numerous Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe and the United States, and year after year they perform exceptionally well in major domestic and international competitions.
